BRAIN-BASED THERAPY

NEUROFEEDBACK
THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
BRAINWAVE MEASUREMENT
Electrodes placed on the scalp detect and measure brainwave activity using EEG (electroencephalography).
FEEDBACK
The measured brainwave activity is fed back to the individual, often through visual or auditory cues (e.g., a video game, music).
TRAINING
As the individual learns to regulate their brainwaves in response to the feedback, their brain begins to self-regulate and generate the desired brainwave patterns.
POTENTIAL USES AND BENEFITS
TRAINING MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS
Neurofeedback has been used to treat conditions like ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and addiction.
IMPROVING COGNITIVE FUNCTION
It can be used to enhance focus, memory, and learning abilities.
OTHER APPLICATIONS
Neurofeedback has also been explored for pain management, sleep disorders, and other conditions.
NON INVASIVE AND SAFE
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive therapy that does not involve medication or surgery
INTEGRATIVE PSYCHIATRY

Integrative psychiatry is a whole-body approach to treating psychiatric conditions like depression, anxiety, insomnia or ADHD. This approach identifies the root causes of mental illness in order to treat and restore health of the body and brain.
Through an integrative approach, Shaindel’s goal is to move beyond symptom management and address the root causes of mental illness. The root causes are unique to each patient, and may be genetic, biochemical, nutritional, hormonal or environmental. Integrative psychiatry targets these root causes, along with the underlying chemistry affecting brain and behavior, to promote healing and recovery.

Initial assessment includes a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation with relevant blood work. Treatment plans address contributing factors that include lifestyle interventions, nutritional change and supplementation, as well as medication management when indicated. At INSIYT we offer research-backed interventions and tools to identify key nutritional deficiencies, bridge the gap between biology and psychology, and facilitate real, lasting recovery.

Conventional psychiatry relies heavily upon pharmaceuticals to reduce the symptoms of mental illness. It assumes there is a neurotransmitter imbalance and that medication will alleviate symptoms. However, there are far more factors that influence mental health than just neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin.
At INSIYT we seek to affect brain chemistry and overall health through adjunctive therapies such as Mindfulness, Neurofeedback, Yogatherapy, Therapeutic Touch and Brainspotting techniques. Clients are encouraged to engage in individual psychotherapy to further facilitate healing.
BRAIN SPOTTING
WHAT IS BRAIN SPOTTING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Brainspotting was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Grand, a leading EMDR therapist and author of “Brainspotting: The Revolutionary New Therapy for Rapid and Effective Change”, while he was working with a 16-year-old figure skater who was having trouble landing a triple loop. She had a lot of trauma around her training, and during an EMDR session, he noticed something strange—her eyes wobbled at a certain point. Instead of continuing the usual eye movements, he instinctively froze her gaze right there.

For ten minutes, she just stared at that spot. What followed was the deepest emotional processing she had ever experienced—not just about her skating struggles, but about her parents’ divorce and the intense pressure she had carried for years. She later said those ten minutes were the most powerful therapy she had ever received. Afterward, she landed her triple loop and gained closure on issues she hadn’t even realized were affecting her.
Brainspotting operates on simple but profound principles:
-
Where you look influences how you feel and becomes an entrance to where trauma is stored in the brain.
-
It is an innovative therapy that aims to help individuals access and process deeply stored trauma and emotions by using eye position to unlock unresolved experiences.
-
Brainspotting is a flexible, patient-led approach that often allows the brain to naturally heal itself.
-
Brainspotting can benefit individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, dissociation, performance issues, and even creative blocks.
If you’ve ever felt stuck in therapy, like you’re talking about the same things but not really getting to the root of it, you’re not alone. Sometimes, trauma and emotional pain are stored deep in the brain in ways we can’t access through words alone. Brainspotting is an innovative, brain-based therapy that often helps people process and release these emotions by focusing on where they look.

KETAMINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy & Ketamine Assisted Somatic Psychotherapy:
Non-ordinary states of consciousness can radically transform your life.

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy has been described as “a turbocharged method of reaching your mental health goals.” Ketamine is classified as a dissociative anesthetic and has proven successful in helping a population of patients whose depression is not responsive to any other medication. These patients are referred to as “treatment resistant.” Many randomized, double-blinded, controlled trials have unequivocally shown ketamine’s power as an antidepressant, anxiolytic (anxiety-relieving) properties, and effectiveness at rapid elimination of suicidal ideation.

The primary way ketamine works is by blocking NMDA receptors on a particular type of neuron and thus produces a surge of glutamate. This excess of glutamate stimulates and excites the brain which enhances neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is a fancy term for the brain’s ability to make new connections, create new neurons and activate the brain’s learning centers. These neurobiological changes, as well as the non-ordinary state of consciousness increases the ability to radically transform your life. Ketamine is safe, legal, and considered a gentler mind-altering agent as compared to other psychedelics.

The ketamine experience has been described as “holding up a mirror to yourself.” The drug simply illuminates and reveals what the mind is holding to be true. When faced with one's shadow, self-incriminations, or hidden demons one is also gifted a hefty dose of self-compassion. There is more objective awareness of inner process and behavior without the fear and self-judgement. Many intense emotions may come up in meeting these parts and yet the client emerges with deeper and truer self-acceptance.
